Aujourd’hui, j’avais envie de partager avec vous un texte qui m’a beaucoup touchée : Etre Jeune, du poète Samuel Ullman (1840-1924). Interprété ci-dessous (en français) par la Promotion Aubert de Vincelles du Prytanée Militaire, il résume parfaitement l’idée du « Forever Young ».

« La jeunesse n’est pas une période de la vie, elle est un état d’esprit, un effet de la volonté, une qualité de l’imagination, une intensité émotive, une victoire du courage sur la timidité, du goût de l’aventure sur l’amour du confort. On ne devient pas vieux pour avoir vécu un certain nombre d’années, on devient vieux parce qu’on a déserté son idéal. Les années rident la peau, renoncer à son idéal ride l’âme. »

Today, I wanted to share with a you a text that I do appreciate: Youth, a poem by Samuel Ullman (1840-1924). Below performed (in French) by the Aubert de Vincelles promotion from the National Military Prytanée, it’s the pure expression of the « Forever Young » motto.

« Youth is not a time of life – it is a state of mind, it is a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over love of ease. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. »
